Sharing through Storytelling
Pride of a Nation
Mikisew is delighted to have a membership that is evolving and progressing, both personally and professionally, alongside our Nation.
Traditional values and roots ground our members and guide their future, whether they decide to stay on reserve and live life on the land or choose to succeed in a more modern way of life outside our community.
We appreciate the opportunity to share some of our unique stories and hope they help you get to know us a bit better. Enjoy!
All Our Stories
Joe Gibot
Joe is a successful heavy-duty mechanic who gained Red Seal certification in 1976 – something of which he is very proud. Since then, Joe has always been employed or apprenticing and, like many successful Mikisew members, able to make a living near his home.
Lloyd Antoine
Having started out as a millwright, Lloyd is now a successful business owner employing a team of nearly 100 people and providing valuable services to major constructors and producers in the region.
Robert Grandjambe
Robert Grandjambe’s life has always revolved around Mikisew land. He loves sharing his memories of it and the concern he has for its future.
Shawn Simpson
Shawn Simpson is an interesting person in many ways, but if you were to describe him in one word it would be “dedication.” He is dedicated to his job and co-workers, to his family, traditions and the land, and to his community and the people around him.
Sara Voyageur
Ever since Sara Voyageur was a little girl, she knew she wanted to get into the healthcare field. “I never knew if I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse” she recounts.
Melanie Dene
Melanie aspires to give back to her community by sharing her knowledge about history, decolonization and other aspects of her heritage that touch her community directly.
Rita Marten
Rita’s message is to be proud of your rich, diverse cultural identity. Carry the torch and pass on teachings of your Cree, Dene, and Métis heritage. Be happy and acknowledge all the people you meet in your travels.
