Who You Are
Mikisew Cree is currently looking for an Executive Director to work full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with on-call availability. The successful candidate will work closely with the Board of Directors and be responsible for the overall management of the Child & Family Services program, which includes Prevention, Intervention, Family Enhancement, Kinship, and Foster Care. The Executive Director will also oversee the financial management of the program and collaborate with Mikisew Chief and Council, the Board of Directors, Elders, Alberta Government Liaison’s, and Indigenous Services Canada. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions, with the ability to work collaboratively with community members and external partners.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills with management team, staff, Board of Directors, Administrator, Chief and Council, Federal/Provincial government representatives, staff and various programs/vendors to provide quality service delivery
- Knowledgeable and a working understanding of the Child Youth Family Enhancement Act and Manual as well as other legislation within the scope of Children Services,
- Administers, monitors, and evaluates the effective delivery and complementation of the Mikisew Cree First Nation CFS Program
- Recruits and supervises the child and family services team
- Manages the financial responsibilities to ensure appropriate administration of the child and family services budget
- Performs the duties of a ‘director’ under the Child, Youth & Family Enhancement Act
- Acts as the liaison between the Mikisew CFS, the Mikisew membership, the relevant federal and provincial government departments and other agencies as required.
- The Director of Child and Family Services is a key team member and may be asked to carry out other duties and activities related to the effectiveness and the successful implementation of the child and family services program.
- Perform all duties in a manner consistent with Mikisew Cree First Nation Mission/Vision Statement

Qualifications
- Master of Social Work or bachelor’s with minimum 10 years experience working in Children Services
- Current Children Services Delegation or ability to attain training
- Current Alberta College of Social Work Registration (ACSW)
- Minimum of five (5) years Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA) Services experience
- Must respect Mikisew Cree Traditional Language and Culture
- Must have knowledge of community resources and ability to work with community partners at all levels

PT Cook (KKECH)

Who You Are
Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Land Coordinator. Accountable to the Housing and Property Manager, the Reserve Land Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring and managing on reserve land and activities of economic, building construction on nation land. This position is responsible for overseeing land management and transfer of title to land, third party agreements, administration, and landowner/stakeholder. These includes managing and reporting on the land activities and providing advice on rights and land acquisition requirements such as certified possession. The role is responsible for building relationships with community members, government, and land users.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and direct construction activities of individuals, property management department, and consultants for construction services.
- Lead development of MCFN land use code and lot numbers as well keeping records of land ownership.
- Coordinate with environmental consultants and in house environmental monitors on Land acquisition process for new land and/or reserve, including due diligence, valuation, negotiations, and capital planning.
- Ensure Lots are well demarcated and numbered to avoid encroachment.
- Negotiate and develop land related agreements, including royalty, lease, permission to enter, and common boundary agreements.
- Manage and protect natural resources on the land to avoid trespass without required permits.
- Ensure reserve land is captured in GIS system for easy management and administration.
- Support area teams in the planning, coordination and implementation of progressive stripping and rehabilitation plans that meet long-term objectives and are compliant with site, excavation, and mining plans.
- Lead community plan towards land expansion and development for residential, capital project, and industrial layout.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Management of all land use planning and related land approvals required to support any land use activity.
- Knowledge of the Land Act, Indian Act, and other legislation governing Indigenous land transactions in Alberta.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in natural resource management, environmental consulting and/or relevant related practical experience is desirable.
- Post-secondary education or experience equal to the job responsibilities and specifications.
- Hardworking, detail-oriented, and analytical professional with strategic mindset.
- Proven strength in analysis and creative problem solving, communication, interpersonal relationships, self-motivation, and leadership.
- Ability to manage and/or coordinate large development projects while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

- Willingness to travel to construction sites occasionally and driver’s license is required.

- Maintain accurate and updated land information and document in the Land Information System.
- Previous experience and knowledge of First Nations is an asset.

JOB SUMMARY |
We are currently looking to hire a Full Time IRS Assistant. This opportunity will be a full-time permanent position and is ideal for an experienced administrative professional. The IRS Assistant will provide support and be a primary point of contact on all matters pertaining to the IRS team and with the Fort Chip Truth Scanning Project team. The successful candidate will assist providing IRS support and acting as the first line of communication for internal and external stakeholders. Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Director, Technical Services. Reporting to the COO, the Director Technical Services will be responsible for the direction, planning, coordination, and supervision of the Technical Services department. The Department leads programs and activities related to the Mikisew Cree First Nation’s housing initiatives municipal operations, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, major and minor capital improvements of streets and parking services, transmission of potable water, safe removal of sewage, engineering services and the proper developments of reserve infrastructure and services. Working within the general objectives and directions from the Chief and Council, the Director is expected to play a major role in developing specific objectives and plans, providing direction, accomplishing expectations efficiently and effectively and evaluating the department’s operation.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual departmental and staff work plans (financial, equipment, material, and human resources) to accomplish department and program service levels (through budgeting) and to monitor and be accountable for resource utilization according to plan.
- Responsible for the direction and supervision of all department personnel.
- Assist the CEO and the Chief and Council in establishing annual goals, budgets, and direction for the department.
- Ensures there is continuity with other department initiatives that target new reserve infrastructure and services and/or business facilities and services construction.
- Ensures the positive image of the department with membership.
- The Director has the authority to make requisitions for capital work, fixed assets and operating expenses within approved budgets, policies, and procedures, to manage staff, to enter into and sign contractual agreements for approved projects on behalf of the department and oversee such projects to ensure a net result.
- Coordinate the efficient and effective execution of both ongoing Housing and Technical Services responsibilities and specific assigned projects.
- Liaise with other departments, public groups, and the membership to overcome problems, find solutions and plan and execute improvements.

- Establish and maintain general policies and procedures for the operations of the Technical Services department.

- Responsible for managing the budget and submitting update reports and cost estimates as may be required by funding organizations including the federal government.
- Responsible for the organization, planning, implementation administration and evaluation of the MCFN housing programs.
- Responsible for multi-year capital plans and projects including the identification, planning, development, preparation and submission of plans and cost estimates. Engaging and selecting consultants to provide architectural and engineering services.
- Tender call reviews and awarding of Tenders.
- Monitoring work in progress to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and following up accordingly.
- Resolve technical problems that arise during construction.
- Establish and maintain a filing system for capital projects including design drawing as-built drawings, inspection reports, feasibility studies, site plans, project evaluations, computer data etc.
- Utilize a centralized computer system that incorporates programs for capital project management and to ensure that data is entered correctly, processed and recorded.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in engineering, Public Administration, or related field an asset.
- Extensive experience dealing with federal and provincial government funding and training agencies and authorities.
- Proven management and organizational skills.

Early Childhood Learning & Development Coordinator – Fort Chipewyan, AB

Reporting to the Wellness Manager the Early Childhood Learning and Development Coordinator will primarily be responsible for assisting with the design, development and facilitation of Indigenous-focused, culturally safe early years’ drop-in parent/caregiver participation program and outreach to support Mikisew Cree First Nation’s children aged 0-6.
This position is in Fort Chipewyan but a hybrid model of working remoting from Fort McMurray with frequent travel to community will be considered.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit annual work plans/budgets and manage program according to funding terms and conditions.
- Maintain accurate records and statistical information and monthly program reporting.
- Always maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy legislation.
- Assist with the design and facilitation of distinction based, culturally safe, wholistic early years drop-in and outreach programming.
- Assist with curriculum development to provide educational opportunities, and preschool and kindergarten
- readiness to contribute to children’s overall health and wellness.
- Provide activity coordination to involve Indigenous Elders/Knowledge Keepers to honour the teachings of our ancestors, incorporate traditional storytelling, culture, values, practices, Cree language, foods and child development activities into the program.
- Incorporate and coordinate activity-based programming for the different stages of a child’s developmental growth including socio-emotional and cognitive development and inclusion for children who require additional support.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of community-based early childcare educators, health and service providers, community organizations, agencies and at the municipality, provincial and federal level.
- Assist with program evaluation and quality improvements.
- Research, integrate and share best practices in the early years field.
- Participate in Health Department Team meetings.
- Attend workshops or other events, as required, and as program funds permit.
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree with specialization in Health Sciences, Education or Social Services or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education, training and professional experience.
- Must have a valid First Aid and Infant CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
- Must have a valid Food Safe certificate (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
- Valid provincial class 5 driver’s license, and clean driver’s abstract required.
- Willingness to take training as required.
- 1 or more years’ experience working with families and children aged 0 – 6.
- Working knowledge of Early Childhood Development and assessment tools.
- Direct program delivery experience in the community social service sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of family-centered care, early intervention strategies, child development and community- based programs.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Assistant is responsible for providing high-level administrative support to the Chief and Council, ensuring efficient operation of the office, and facilitating communication between the Chief and Council, MCFN staff, and external stakeholders. This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive individual who can handle culturally sensitive, confidential information with discretion. The Executive Assistant will be responsible for managing schedules, coordinating meetings, booking travel, preparing documents, and performing various administrative tasks to support the leadership team in their duties.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage the Council’s calendars and efficiently arrange and oversee meeting logistics, ensuring that all necessary documents and meeting agendas are prepared ahead of the scheduled meetings.
- To attend Council meetings and record all minutes as well as facilitate and follow up issues related to meetings, resolutions and other activities.
- Screen and manage incoming calls, directing them to appropriate parties.
- Prioritize and manage calendar requests and inquiries to ensure seamless day-to-day engagements.
- Plan and schedule appointments, meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel arrangements.
- Review documents, reports, and correspondence for format, content, grammar, and spelling before Chief and Council signatures, making edits as needed.
- Handle administrative tasks such as preparing complex documents and reports, composing correspondence, maintaining contact lists, preparing expense reports, and assisting with special projects.
- Coordinate and manage activities related to corporate events as required.
- Assist with research activities within the Mikisew department in coordination with the Director and other departmental personnel.
- Support in the management and maintenance of deliverables requirements.
- Participate in workplan and budget development, including proposal writing.

- Organize travel arrangements for Chief and Council.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in business administration or related field is an asset.
- 2-4 years of experience in an executive support role or administrative position.
- Strong understanding of standard office administration practices and procedures.
- Experience in managing multiple calendars.
- Typing speed of 45-50 WPM and proficiency in Microsoft Office – Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher).
- Proven experience in building working relationships with First Nations communities and partners.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid class 5 AB driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Willingness to travel to Fort Chipewyan periodically according to business needs.
- Availability to work after hours/weekends as needed.
- Willingness to uphold an oath of confidentiality.
- Flexibility in working schedule, combining remote work, in-office presence, and community-based work.
- Must provide and maintain a clear criminal record vulnerable sector check.
- Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
