Committed to community safety

This three-year project will set up hydrometric stations, buoys equipped with sensors, and trail cameras in the Peace-Athabasca Delta to provide data on the condition of the water and ice at key locations in the community. This will help with decision making and greatly improve the safety of community members who currently rely on word of mouth for information about conditions of the land.

This project, which is a partnership with Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and Fort Chipewyan Métis, will help track climate change indicators and empower community members and leaders to take action to mitigate and adapt to the changes.

Monitoring with the Hydromet system will be conducted from June to October when water temperature is conducive for the operational limits of the sensors. Training in spring and summer 2023 will help us to understand how the equipment can best be used.
